For years it has been used and actually my longest follow up cases are with this connection.
Together with the machined top collar placed supracrestally are what we call the Brånemark connection.
The machined collar and the position attenuate the lack of seal of this connection
I just saw one today and what completely ,makes me crazy is the diversity of the hexagon dimensions ........ 0,5 mm of a difference and its a totally diferent portfolio ...... long live the economy around dental implants , for the external hex it shoud be only one size !!!
For years i heard that this connection is bad , and you can imagine the big defensors of the conical connection , tearing apart this connection , i often found pretty desrespectull and in some way prepotent.
of course I´m a fan of this newly fancy connections , but we have to understand legacy and praise the external hex almost as a piece of museum , maybe for us implantologists as a roseta stone or an egipcian papyrus.
dont underestimate the power of an externa hex together with a machine collar placed suparcestally , is by far the most well known connection and a bacteria hostile terrain for those little suckers ....
